Registrations for the 2023 Climate Classic are closed.

Monday, June 19 marks the fourth edition of the Climate Classic. A 375 km ride along the future coastline that, if climate change continues at this rate, could be a reality as early as the end of this century.

Is 375 km just too much of a good thing? Then you can also choose the 125 km version (Breda - De Bilt), or the 250 km version (De Bilt - Groningen).

It will be a race against time to be in Groningen before dark. Depending on your speed, you will be on your bike for between 13 and 16 hours. This distance requires a thorough preparation and very good condition. Along the way we will provide plenty of places to eat and rest. But not too long because: "Time Is Our Only Challenge".

Note: During your registration we will ask you the following:
1. What was the CO2 concentration in the air in your year of birth? Check it here.
2. What is your (hidden) impact on the climate? You determine this on the My Hidden Impact website .
3.What is your Climate Promise? What will you do to reduce your own impact, and/or that of friends and family. See examples here.

Check the clothing size chart here in advance, as exchanges are only possible if we have the size in stock. Note: the shirts have a professional fit, and are therefore quite tight ;-).

Climate Promise

We cycle to call attention to the effects of climate change. But attention is not enough. We want to make an impact.

Again, together we make more impact. As a participant of the Climate Classic, we expect you too to contribute to reducing your own climate impact or that of your friends/family/colleagues.

Something you will do (besides ride a bike for a bit) to reduce CO2. Think of a ~~six months no~~ never eat meat again, have that conversation with your neighbors that their roofs could be fitted with solar panels, join a local energy cooperative, go on vacation by train this year, plant trees or offset your own footprint. Transportation back from Groningen to De Bilt and Breda

Please note that on Monday, June 19, there will be no trains on part of the Groningen - Utrecht route. Plan your return trip via Leeuwarden or book a shuttle bus on time. Allow for extra travel time.

Possibly family or friends will pick you up in Groningen or you will return by train (via Leeuwarden). Because of the work and limited capacity on the trains, we will also use shuttle buses to transport your bike and yourself.

Shuttle service
The shuttle bus costs €40 per person (including bicycle). The fare is the same for both final destinations (Utrecht and Breda). The shuttle service can be booked during registration or by e-mail to classic@cycling4climate.nl. When a bus is filled, it leaves.

The shuttle service is provided by the company Wielerbus and can be booked during the registration process.

Outward transportation from De Bilt to start location in Breda

Public transportation on Monday morning to the start is a challenge because bicycles are not allowed on trains at this time. Therefore, we also offer a shuttle service from De Bilt to the start location in Breda. Arrival: 6:30 am, departure at 7:00 am. So book your start time slot at least from 8:15 so you still have time in Breda to pick up your clothes. Costs are €25,- per person.

Climate Stripes Shirt & Socks

Climate change is an abstract concept. The Climate Stripes, which visually depicts the average temperature of the past 150 years, makes it clear in one fell swoop: The last 20 years have been the warmest on record.

Therefore, during the Classic, we all cycle in Climate Stripes shirts and socks. The shirt is your proof of participation, and without a shirt you unfortunately have no access to the care stations. Don't have a cycling shirt and socks yet? Order them separately during the registration process. Before you register, check your size and further details on the clothing page. The shirts and socks will be available at the starting locations in Breda and De Bilt.

Materials used
The shirts are made from at least 95% recycled materials and are produced in Europe. This is how we try to minimize our impact on the environment.

Overnight, pasta buffet & luggage

Overnight
The start in Breda is at Water Board Brabantse Delta. There are several hotels in the area. At hotel Van Der Valk, located 5 km from the start, you can book a double room for € 97.50 including breakfast, excluding tourist tax (€ 3.93 p.p.n.) with reservation code PRI-GF57995. The Mastbosch hotel is fully booked.

The Sunday evening pasta buffet, for which you can optionally register, is also at the Van der Valk Hotel for those staying in the Mastbosch.

Pasta buffet
On Sunday evening, June 18, you can also enjoy a pasta buffet at hotel Van Der Valk Breda. You can book this during your registration, but you can also book it later via your dashboard in Atleta. You do not necessarily have to stay overnight at the hotel.

Luggage
Your luggage (preferably as little as possible, of course), can be dropped off at the water board at the start. We will bring it to the finish for you. Make sure your name and phone number are clearly visible on your luggage by means of a label or sticker.
